Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at Seven Dwarves Motel. Usual practice is to leave your ten bucks on the windshield, but yesterday I noticed they said you could leave it on their mail box as well, so that's what we did. They even had a note encouraging people to park in such a way that more vehicles could be accommodated. Thank you! And please remember, the landowners have asked that traction not be used on their bridges.

Comments
Comments: To start with, a whole lotta thank yous! The folks who answered my Reddit question about going from the motel to the trailhead. The owners of the Seven Dwarfs. The landowners whose property the short cuts is on.

Finally did the Fire Warden's Trail. Even though I had a difficult time yesterday (as I hadn't done anything since Thanksgiving) I really liked this trail. Would like to try it in the warmer months just to see what it looks like (photos are beautiful). The approach to the trail head is good; walk up a little more and then turn onto a private drive. First path on your left is NOT where you want to go. A little further on the left there is a sign saying TRAIL. This is the one, it will take you to the road, you make a left and not much further is the North Twin trailhead. Lots of snowmobilers enjoy this road, watch for them.

North Twin trail is great, no postholes. Some pretty ice formations on the rocks. Entrance to FW is easy to spot. You can see the track where people have been. There is a slender tree with a hatchet blaze on it. Remember this so you can find it after the snow is gone. Unfortunately, folks who had gone on before were not wearing snowshoes and this had the usual result. Had a nice talk with three people who were barebooting and encouraged them to use snowshoes next time. Told them they wouldn't sink down with them.

This is a very pretty woods. The birches you always read about were stunning. The trail was obvious for the most part, I think I would be able to follow it when the snow is gone. For those not looking forward to Hale due to its lack of views, this trail has some lovely obstructed views in its upper levels. The descent took forever. In addition to being out of shape, I was also slower than my usual slow self because I would catch the edge of my snow shoe in the frequent postholes.

Definitely recommend this approach to Hale.
