Clockwise trek. Started with snow shoes, having read the last trail report from a few days ago - But the trail was hard frozen and fast overnight, so we switched to spikes at 0.5 mi on ascent up Dickie. A better choice for today’s conditions.
Trail is totally hard packed and a part for a few icy patches, very doable.
On descent from both Dickie and Welch there were several heard pass workarounds to the left of tricky spots that were helpful.
Unexpectedly beautiful day given the weather forecast. A Plan B hike- we started at Plymouth Mtn but the lot at Fauver Link wasn’t plowed And although three four-wheel-drive vehicles were there, after having to get towed at Cherry Mountain last year and similar situation, we didn’t want to chance it with rooms enough for our family minivan. Our first time doing the full circuit during winter. So proud of one of my sons with autism, The one with the significant motor planning challenges. The minute we were at dickie’s ledges and above tree line, he charged to head like he was shot out of a cannon. Hiking has transformed us all, and on Sun-kissed days like today, the mountains tell us we live in the light. |
