A lovely day to be out. The weather forecast was a bit inaccurate, in our favor with higher temps and lighter winds. Summit at 1pm was somewhere around 0°F with gentle 5-10mph winds.
Trails were in great condition. Tuckerman’s trail is maintained by the cat and was hard packed with a couple snowmobiles riding between the base and Hermit Lake. Lions Head trail was well traveled and well packed down. Once we started Lions Head trail, we switched out the microspikes for crampons and the trekking poles for ice tools. Ice tools were handy for that one hairy section but other than that, trekking poles were sufficient. Switched back to microspikes for the boulder field to summit. Went back down the same way.
Lots of hikers and skiers taking advantage of the nice weather today. Happy trails! |
