great weather and most of the trails in great shape. tis the season for microspikes. of the 15 or so folks I crossed paths with, only three in snowshoes, myself included. Willey Range between Field and Willey is narrow and was the most chewed up by hikers in just spikes. not the worst I've seen, but it will get worse. the lower part of Avalon is a freaking ice luge from the butt sledders, so if that's your thing, slap on a helmet and go get it while the getting's good. I'm not a fan. it's scraped pretty thing in spots and I don't think crampons would be overkill on the descent. bananas. |
