Comments
Comments: Two groups of 2 started at 530 separately, we merged to one group on Bondcliff near the stairs and stayed together to Zealand Hut. Another group of 2 friends started about 1 hour after us. They caught up to us and passed us at Bondcliff. We wore spikes from Lincoln Woods, 1 group switched to snowshoes after about 1 mile on Wilderness, the other group changed to snowshoes at Bondcliff Trail. Trails from Bondcliff to Zealand Spur had seen minimal traffic since the storm a week ago Friday. Bondcliff trail was firm with unconsolidated snow to Bondcliff. Wind was howling at Bondcliff and at Guyout. Strong enough to knock some of us over a few days. Strongest winds were at the approach to South Guyout. Fortunately, the winds were at our backs or sides most of the day and the temperatures were fairly mild. We were thankful. Though the winds were higher that forecasted. The ridge from Bondcliff to Bond was a mix of wind swept snow, unconsolidated snow, with sparse ice and rock patches to treeline. Above treeline from below Bond to treeline at Guyout was softer and more unconsolidated snow. West Bond Spur was yet softer. Twinway had seen less traffic from Bondcliff to Zealand Spur. Another group of 4 friends broke trail from Zealand Hut to Zealand Spur Saturday morning. Some of the best trail all day. Twinway had some deeper unconsolidated snow to Zealand Spur. Some postholes from Zealand Spur to the hut. The hut had about 12 quests Saturday night. Zealand Trail was firm but still needing snowshoes and had a few sets of bare boot tracks. Zealand Road had seen more bare boots, and it got worse heading to 302. A bit of a slog avoiding bare boot tracks for 3.5 miles to 302. A group of 2 walked out Saturday evening from the hut and wore snowshoes to 302.

A big thanks to the few that had been out there Friday and all who were the groups out yesterday. We saw 1 other hiker all day just below Hillary's Step, he had slept at Guyout Friday night and was on his way back to Lincoln Woods.
