Comments
Comments: Trail took some licks the last couple days but had enough snowshoe action that it froze into a pretty nice sidewalk last night. Snowshoes to the summit, spikes back down to the car. Some various postholed spots on the edge of the trail, some semisoft snow on the edges, some very helpful divots/footsteps for descent. Pretty good shape, the short section in the shrub on the shoulder of the main summit has lots of false paths packed out including one that looks like the trail except it wanders off up to the right and comes out on the ski slopes. Avoid the urge to go right and look for a semi postholed, semi obvious track that wanders farther off to the left than expected. There is a nice deep snowpack winter shortcut broken out up to the tower that cuts off half of the dumb loop around that the rim trail takes to the summit. Great traction down with spikes as the snow was a grippy crunchy instead of a boilerplate slide that i was concerned about. Snowshoes aren't necessary on trail after the freeze event, but stepping off trail involves deep postholing and televators are a lovely piece of gear for saving the legs on the ascents.
