 | Comments: |
MICROspikes throughout the hike.
Harriskat Trail ascending- conditions were mostly firm with a thin soft slushy layer.
Thumbs Up Trail (connection from Skatutakee to Thumb)- Soft and tough in the saddle with plenty of postholing. Also postholes from two hikers who had just crossed it recently. Snowshoes probably would be better here.
Thumbs Up Trail (up to summit)- Generally solid with some posthole areas, thin slushy layer on top.
Thumbs Down Trail descending- Generally solid enough for spikes, occasional postholing, soft in section that passes Jack's Pond.
*I would say to maybe wear snowshoes to guarantee stability throughout this hike, but I believe things will firm up in all sections with the incoming colder temperatures. I would recommend MICROspikes for the hike.
*Postholes in the saddle area between summits sank to maybe 18-24" snow depth. |
