Very good trail conditions until last stretch. Dry, well packed powder. Snowshoes all the way, except I bare booted down the bottom half. Beautiful deep show at high elevations. Unfortunately, we got a late start and high winds (45 mph?) and pelting snow on the last open stretch below the summit prevented us from reaching the peak. The trail was hidden in deep snow and one of us had no goggles, so we turned back after an attempt. Even so, it was hard to find the trail back into the woods. At least one pair of hikers summited before us, but others had also turned back. Great day nonetheless. |
