Comments
Comments: Fantastic day in the Whites - cloudless and no wind. Trail was packed out for most of the way to the summit but could use some additional snowshoe traffic. The last few tenths of the Kinsman Trail to the Rim Trail was not packed out. As we began to ascend the final hill to the summit which breaks out of the vegetation into an open area, we lost the Kinsman Trail. We followed ski and snowshoes tracks leading off to the right on a ski trail bringing us to a ski run. Climbing a short way up the ski run we were able to make a sharp left on to the Rim Trail and eventually the Kinsman Ridge trail. We broke out a short side trail from here to the true summit. On the return we started from the Rim Trail and attempted to break out the unbroken section of the Kinsman Trail. Unfortunately, after a 100 feet we could not find any sign of the trail under large snow drifts. We headed mostly straight down pushing thru hip deep snow to where we had gone off trail.
