Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw one dog. I think it's doable with a dog. One spot between Middle and South Carter might be tricky, it was hard for me to get up. Might not be an issue for a savy trail dog or if going from South to Middle Carter.

Comments
Comments: Trail started out being broke along Dodge Camp Rd, but quickly the tracks had stopped along the Imp Trail. Ended up rebreaking trail from Imp Trail up to Carter Moriah in 4in of snow. Did short stretch out to North Carter. Appeared untouched since the previous big storm. Broke trail in 1+ feet of snow. Continued over to Middle and South Carter. Still had to rebreak trail through 6in-1ft feet of snow. Lots of drifting in these sections making it slow going. There was one part between Middle and South Carter that was really steep. I had to go up on all fours, using my whippet to help me up. Might have been easier to switch to crampons in this section, but I was able to dig down through the deep snow to finally find some traction with my snowshoes. Was glad to find a wonderful lady up on South Carter who broke trail up from Zeta Pass. The rest of the hike was much easier going, thanks to the trail breakers that went to Carter Dome. Mount Hight on the Carter Dome side was broken out, but it was still pretty rough going up to the summit. The trail on the other side coming down from Mt Hight was much better packed out, which made for easy descent. The rest of the trail down from Zeta Pass down to 19M Brook and to the trailhead was a dream. Nicely packed. Recommend snowshoes still for this entire hike, since things are still soft and not packed down enough in certain sections.
