Date of Hike: Wednesday, February 9, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Sabbaday Falls parking was plowed.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Lower 3 crossings firmly bridged. Higher up, several small crossings were challenging with much snow making banks a steep drop to open water. Replaced snowshoes with microspikes for one crossing as exposed rocks were small and icy and I couldn't see how to cross without getting snowshoes wet.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There were a few duck-unders that were not a problem. One tree in the wet section before the steeps had fallen across the trail but was easy to get around.

Comments
Comments: Trail to falls was well packed and hard. Beyond was a deep trench snowshoe packed pretty well, though a bit icy. Previous person might have been a runner, with very short snowshoes leaving pretty big divots, but not obtrusive. Did come across a section of serious post holes - maybe I should call them moose-holes. Tracks all over and sometimes in the trail. The trail runner had turned around at the crossings I found challenging, leaving just one previous snowshoer packing the trail. He or she had a bit of trouble finding the trail in the wet section before the steeps and had turned around at a spot where I could not see the trail either. I continued on for about 20 yards or so but was floundering pretty bad and came to a stream crossing where I could only see the barest dent on the other side where the trail might have been. It was about 3 miles in, just before the trail goes up around The Fool Killer. So the trail is nicely packed, but only that far.
