Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: A couple inches of fresh damp powder hadn't been plowed at 8AM and my van couldn't quite make it into the Ammo lot. I paid the 10 bucks to park at the cog.

Comments
Comments: Incredible day to be up high. Bright sun, big views, warm temps, and moderate winds. Snowshoes were unquestionably the best option all day.

The Jewell trail is in great shape with a few inches of heavy powder on a really nice base. Thanks to all who laid it down this weekend. At treeline it became hard to follow with everything being windswept. You could feel it as soon as you stepped off, it was really soft off the track. Between cairns and faint signs of snowshoes I was able to follow it up to the ridge which made the day much easier.

Most of the ridge is a mixture supportive crust, not supportive crust, and powdery drifts. It wasn't easy going, but also not too difficult. I didn't see anyone else on Jefferson. A few people on Washington. From Washington to Monroe there was a group of four barebooters who thrashed the trail. I found it easier to just lay down a new track to the side. Ascent up Monroe was fairly windswept and easy going on snowshoes.

The track on the upper end of Ammo is not quite right - it stays in the gully at the top instead of going to the right. Fine for a winter route. I tried to follow the true trail, but after the first few cairns I couldn't find where it ducks into the scrub, so I ended up slipping into the ravine a little higher up. Ammo trail is still a lot of loose powder which made for a fast, fun descent. Sometimes on my butt, sometimes on my skishoes, and sometimes it was just like I was walking down with pillows strapped under my feet :)
