Fresh snow overnight and throughout the morning. As much as 6 inches on last half mile on valley way caused some sliding backwards on way up. Now packed fairly well but still quite soft, not suitable for anything but snowshoes. Switched to hillshounds for ascent from hut, would have been better to leave snowshoes on until second or third cairn. Tricky going up summit cone as some steps sunk into knee or greater and others hit hidden rocks. |
