Comments
Comments: Snowshoes all day. My thermometer tracked 3F as the low. <20mph winds but most of the trail is protected from the wind. Track was decently broken out until the A-Z fork. From there there was only one set of snowshoe tracks up to Avalon, looked more broken between Field and Avalon, but I called it a day. Steep path from A-Z to summit spur was a exhausting with all the back sliding. The summit spur was even more exhausting with the champagne powder. On the return, bare booters had reversed the work I'd done on the way up making it a snowshoe ski down the mountain. Butt sledding wasn't an option with the amount of fresh powder. Passed the guilty party on the lower section. 8 barebooters representing Dartmouth outing club(how the mighty have fallen!). Talked for a minute, they had bailed from exhaustion going up Avalon. The trail was really nice and flat after I passed them and i stopped rolling my ankles.
