Comments
Comments: Pine Bend Brook trail is well broken out and has an absolutely lovely track due to everyone actually wearing their snowshoes, yay! Both Sabbaday and Scaur Ridge trails got broken out today, scaur this afternoon as it was unbroken while passing uphill in the morning. Mt tripyramid trail is not broken out heading to the north slide from the north summit or from the middle summit heading towards the south summit. I would put the chances of Kate Sleeper trail being broken out at highly improbable. Great day, beautiful views, cold morning and being in the shade most of the day made it feel decently colder than it actually was. Nice day to be in the trees as there was a nice nippy wind on the exposed west outlooks on the summit of middle tri. Decent bit of drifting while crossing the top of scaur ridge on pine bend, minimal accumulation but covered tracks here. The ravine was work going up and an absolute chore coming down as its some pretty gnarly sidehill snowshoeing going down thanks in large part to the butt sliders turning a nice packed track into a trench filled with lots of soft unconsolidated powder on top. Put on the pole baskets for the first time today and theres enough snow to make them a necessary part of the gear kit for the rest of the winter. Snowshoes are absolutely essential, even if the trail is well broken out, stepping off trail without snowshoes is a guarantee for sinking up to your hip/knee depending on elevation. Postholing is an extremely speed reducing move that is highly energy inefficient not to mention the damage it does to the trail
