Comments
Comments: Holy Snowball! The parking lot for Mt. Kinnsman Trail is not plowed. I made a few passes toward the lot with 4 wheel drive, able to turn around and head out. But it's a mess. Some vehicles were parked just inside the road edge, one was parked along the road.
The Trail was previously broken, soft, but in good shape. There was evidence of bare booting on the trail which was not an issue. Around 3 miles up the Mt. Kinnsman Trail, we encountered two hikers descending on snowshoes who told us about some barebooters ahead. When we encountered their tracks, there were 4-6 inch deep pocks where they stepped which made it tedious on snowshoes trying to avoid them.
On the Kinnsman Ridge Trail, which was packed pretty firm, we encountered many barebooters which were not effecting the trail condition. There were many hikers on snowshoes also creating a nice path. On our descent of the Mt. Kinnsman Trail, the previous pock makers had descended, leaving indents, which again made snowshoeing squirrely under foot.
The trail conditions are in great shape, but are still fresh and soft. Everyone is enjoying their time outside, and I'm glad to see so many folks doing so.
But, please be considerate for others. Snowshoers create the trails for winter use. Non-snowshoers are allowed to use them. Snowshoes are pricey, but if you intend to enjoy this sport like I have for so many years, please get the proper equipment to do so.
Great day out with Snowy, but a little on the chilly side.
That's my sermon for now.
