Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked in the pullout on Belknap Mtn Road. Room for at least 4 vehicles. I actually chose this hike after checking out the lower Carriage Road parking lot--only room for 2 trucks there, and not a lot of space to turn around.

Comments
Comments: Went up Whiteface Trail, over to Vista junction on Piper-Whiteface Link, took Vista to Mt. Swett, retraced my steps and added Whiteface summit on at the end.

I started off in spikes--there's maybe 1-2 inches of new unpacked powder on top of very stable, mostly packed snow. You can't see where snowshoes have packed down the trail prior to this past week's warm weather, but you can feel it. When you step off the prior-snowshoe-packed path, you will likely create a posthole (I did).

Vista trail requires snowshoes. The boulder-y section after South Piper was a bit tricky. I went down facing the boulders, and kicked some steps into the snow/ice with my snowshoes. Maybe that will be useful to someone else. There were a few sections on Vista where I lost sight of the next blaze, did some wandering, and eventually got back on track, so please don't take the broken trail as THE trail. I kept my snowshoes on for the rest of the day and that was fine.
