After a good foot of snow, there was some packing out to do - a great day for some snowshoeing! I started around 10:30 and the tread was already almost packed down. Snowshoes are still definitely needed to keep the trail in good shape, however. A crew of bare-booters really chewed up the upper section; I was grateful to a team of AMC hikers who came down after them and packed down their postholes (I had already suffered through them for 1/4 mile and that was quite enough). I heard from some descending hikers that they’d broken out Sosman, but by the time I got up there it was snowed in again due to wind/drifts. |
