These trails got anywhere between 8-12 inches of fresh powder with some deeper drifts higher up. I used snowshoes all day and basically was breaking trail the whole time. Three hikers went up Blueberry Ledge Trail ahead of me in boots. One switched to snowshoes well before the ledges but only went as far as the false summit and returned back down BLT. The drifting unconsolidated snow on the ledges meant for plenty of calories burned climbing up the steps. Rollins to Dicey's Mill, then up to Passaconaway's summit there were not other tracks. Dicey's Mill had seen more traffic, I encountered seven other hikers heading up but only two where in snowshoes.
This snow doesn't pack that well and with the winds I would expect drifting overnight. |
