the purpose of this report is to add that from Waterville Valley, Scaur Ridge Trail was broken out this morning; two hikers total (one hiker only had time to go to North Tripyramid); snowshoes are definitely needed, esp. after the incoming snow; everything is supersoft; I was amazed how much I still sank in with snowshoes during the descend
Pine Bend and Tripyramid trail have seen much more traffic; the trail between the peaks was/is beautiful snowshoe track--thanks to all those who had broken it out in recent days! Where the wind was present, drifts had formed overnight and my own tracks were obscured quickly (as forecast, non-stop wind along the ridge)--they were already gone upon my return trip across the ridge
wore snowshoes almost entirely car to car, with the exception of the steep descend off of North Tripyramid; changed to spikes and at times also opted to butt sled; put snowshoes back on at the bottom of the steep section
met two other hikers who had come up from Pine Bend
Note: Snowshoes or skis required on Livermore Road/Trail (Waterville XC ski network). |
