Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: crossing whitewall brook above the hut wasn't a problem, but if the mountains get dumped on tonight (as is a possibility according to the forecast) i'd be a bit cautious. all other crossings were fine.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: cut out a couple of leaners along the ridge. there are a couple easy stepover blowdowns (too large for my saw) in the upper half mile of zealand trail. zealand summit spur sign is just lying on the cairn at the path and should be re-hung (i had nothing to do it with today). one log bridge early on zealand trail has a broken log, but is still plenty intact to make for safe passage.

Comments
Comments: for the most part the trails are the same as ever. zealand trail does have some damage from washouts and some erosion over its length, but not too bad. the flooding around z-bridge persists. there were a fair number of muddy sections all along the route today. another foggy humid day in the mountains. was expecting to get rained on, but it held back for the few hours i was out there. surprisingly quiet given the holiday. nice to be out.
