 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Mt Clinton Rd parking lot is plowed but not sanded; my Subaru was a bit of a tobaggan. About 6 cars when I arrived at 8am and about double that when I returned at 1230pm. Plenty of parking. And the bathrooms are open (and clean - thank you!!) |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
In the most objective way possible I will say this - I was bitten by a “friendly†off leash, out of control dog last summer. When “friendly†off leash out of control dogs rush at me and leap, you better believe I will react with strong words. I was not bitten today but the event definitely put a damper on my jam.
I control my dog. I wish that other people would control theirs. Sigh. Did this come across as judgy? I almost didn’t write this report, because of this event; if this sounds judgy I am sorry. |

A truly incredible day to be above tree-line with bright blue skies, minimal clouds, manageable winds and comfortable temperatures. Crawford Path and Crawford Connector are horrifically rototilled, as noted in the report yesterday. I, too, saw very few people heading up in snowshoes - most were in microspikes. There are multiple spots with actually dangerous appearing postholes (multiple postholes that have banded together to make one big posthole). Definitely watch your step!!
Webster Cliff Trail to the summit of Pierce has a surprising amount of snow and I crunched along in my snowshoes no problem.
The rest of Crawford Path out to Eisenhower was an entirely different story. There was one snowshoer through there since Saturday’s snow (and that person had a longer gait than I do, which was intermittently hilarious). There was 6-10†snow in most places with drifts 1-2’ and more. That brave soul had quite the workout breaking out the trail - thank you!! It was a bit time consuming to get out to Eisenhower Loop, but manageable!
I changed from snowshoes to my Hillsounds just below the first little ladder because that’s where the ice started. That worked perfectly for me and I was able to get up to the summit and back down to that point quite easily. I changed back to snowshoes and headed back. About halfway back to Pierce I saw not one, not two, but seven snowshoers! Seven!! What a fabulous thing! The rest of the way back to Pierce was a breeze as there is a beautiful snowshoed trench, now! Happy ending!! |
