Comments
Comments: I recommend snowshoes the whole way.

The trail was partially broken and not firmly packed. I saw a few people going without snowshoes. Most of the way, they just churned things up a little, but there were a few small stretches where I saw past-the-knee postholes. There was also a point where it looked like many hikers had turned around and ceased to pack the snow down. Up top and across the Brook Trail, a person without snowshoes might not have a fun time.

The Mt. Major trail is being its usual winter self: There are places with a thin layer of snow over slippery ice, and avoiding getting airborne requires care.
