Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked just beyond the HOL on Carr Rd as the road goes back into the woods away from the open fields/houses. No plowed pull offs but the road is wide and it’s a short hike so I just parked on the side of it. No one seemed to mind. The road is well packed snow. It’s a neighborhood so it’s very well plowed and should be doable for any vehicle. There’s some hills bud my FWD vehicle without snow tires handled them just fine. What wasn’t so fun was that Rt 26 hadn’t been terribly well plowed in the morning.

Comments
Comments: Day 89, Peak 82. 4th hike of the day and 5th peak after Dead Water Ridge - South Peak, Diamond Pond Peak, and Sugar Hill and Tumble Duck Mtn. Temps in the mid teens and cloudy but no snow here being further away from Diamond Ponds.

I entered the woods and whacked steeply up to the flatter summit area for 0.1mi, then continued at a much easier grade to the summit which I reached in another 0.1mi. Mostly open woods. A lot of old, overgrown roads to use. The jar was a bit hard to find. If coming up from the west (bushwhacking east) as I did, you’ll see a very large blowdown around the highpoint. The jar is hidden behind from fir branches to the left of this huge blowdown on a small tree. It’s hidden. Took me a couple walking loops around before I found it. I signed in and returned in my tracks.

This was a quickie! Just over 1/2mi (some of which was just wondering around the highpoint looking for the jar), with about 175ft of gain taking just under 45min. Could be done a lot faster if not searching for a jar and if there wasn’t snow! That said, trail breaking here was much easier, further away from the lakes. No more sinking in up to my knees but snowshoes are still definitely needed. 276 more days and 283 more peaks to go…
