A FINE night in the forest! A big thanks to scottb for doing these with me.. for his gridx3 and calendar day :)WEAR YOUR SNOWSHOES. Trails will likely change however the snow amounts forecasted have sharply ebbed as of Saturday morning's forecast. (its 0830 and nothing is happening currently in Lincoln). We bare booted to the wilderness boundary. A lovely trough, though it is unconsolidated, which is to be expected because of low dew points and we have not had a freeze thaw to make it concrete. We put shoes on at the initial steeps, and this made moving far more efficient both with the trail gradient and consistency. They remained on until our return to 112. In retrospect, shoes to this point would been better, but we where younger then and full of hope. I forgot how steep this trail, or any for that matter, to the Tripyramids. Trails where in great shape to about Sabbaday junction, then from Sabbaday to Middle Tri was pretty rough going. On the subject of Sabbaday, there is no evidence aside of a snowshoe hare highway of it being used in the last week+ (No noticable trough). Did note a decent snowshoe track dropping from Middle to South, which I believe the lone car at the TH did a traverse. No evidence of any recent traffic to Scaur (NEHH) or Fool Killer (NHHH). My second winter night hike, this one gridded out the pair for 24&25. My only other winter night hike was the Tri's, in February, alone... I knew better this time around and brought reinforcements. It sounded like with what the two of us had in our packs for this hike, we could have made a small unicorporated village, Beef & Teal's Grant? Location? Purchase? ah ah ah. |
