Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked just west of the Diamond Pond Road’s jct with Roy Rd. Nowhere to really pull off but the road is widely plowed so I just pulled to the side. No one seemed to mind. There are two large plowed pullouts just SW of here but are signed as no parking. Diamond pond Rd is well plowed and should be suitable for any vehicle though I did have to use a bit more caution on it than I did last weekend with the dusting of snow overnight they got. I the road also seemed icier. I fishtailed twice in the same spot on my way in and out on one of the steeper hills on the road (it’s pretty flat overall) that’s also at a turn in the road.

Comments
Comments: Day 89, Peak 79. 2nd hike of the day after Dead Water Ridge - South Peak. Temps in the mid teens and snowing. More snow here around the lakes than elsewhere around the birch and Colebrook it would seem due to the lake effect. Over a foot of powder in general, sometimes 18in, and maybe getting closer to 2ft in spots. Slow going, especially uphill.

From my car, I walked briefly east along Diamond Pond Rd, opposite Roy Rd to an open area where I left the road and began walking S/SE toward the peak. Occasioanal steep pitches made for a good leg workout. Very, very short bushwhack to the highpoint. Not too hard to find the register. Signed in and flew back down my newly broken trail; one of my favorite things to do :) Open woods. The hike was just under a half mile with about 150ft of gain taking me 35-40min. Could probably do it in under 15 if there weren’t snow on the ground…especially if not signing in!

276 more days and 286 more peaks to go…
