16 miles today to go see a stick screwed to a tree! I was the only one today to visit the wise old Owl. Opted for a solo day today because it felt right and solitude was certainly what I got. A frigid starting temp of negative 12F meant growing rime ice on my beard. The sun was strong though and I warmed up quickly. Spikes or even bareboot is sufficient for Lincoln Woods sidewalk. Snowshoes went on at Black Pond Junction and remained on until back at the same Junction. I followed Scott Bs version of the BP Whack taking the right fork down low after the pond and it is now packed a bit more. Snow is still very soft so bring your Snowshoes. Lincoln Brook trail is packed well but definitely powdery and soft. Brutus Whack was more solid than expected until reaching the slight left out of the glades. Conditions from there up are quite soft especially on the ridge. Such a wonderful day in Henry's woods! |
