Comments
Comments: Day 82, Peak 72. 2nd hike of the day after Flat Mtn South. I followed Bennett Street to the start of Flat Mtn Pond Trail with the kiosk and trailhead sign. I then took a left and started bushwhacking S/SW toward the ridge. I figured this would be a nice middle ground approach between heading straight from my car right up the mountain very steeply and heading all the way to the jct with Bennett St Trail, then taking the ridge. This worked fine in my opinion as I didn’t hit very steep grades on my way to the ridge (I’d call them moderate) though the trail to the ridge had some very steep parts.

The woods were open along my way to the ridge. I hit an old Skidder road or two which I think I briefly followed. I hit the ridge around 1500ft and turned left (southeast) to follow it. I soon ran into the red blazes that mark some sort of trail that follows the ridge to the summit. It was marked surprisingly well. With unbroken powder on the trail, I often enough had to look for the next blaze to tell me where I was going but I could almost always quickly find one. The trail to the ridge got quite steep and had some little scrambles but nothing crazy. All in all, this hike was both harder and took longer than I figured though. Go a short ways beyond where the red glaze stops to find the register. Not hard to find. I signed in and returned the same way.

Snowshoes we’re on my feet the entire time. Still not a whole helluva lot of snow down low but definitely enough snow around the summit to make trailbreaking a good workout. The hike was 2.75-3mi with about 1000ft of gain and took me just over 2hrs which was about a half hour longer than I figured it would. 283 more days and 293 more peaks to go…
