Fast packed trail from Gilford Elem. School to Mt. Rowe. Here’s my public mea culpa: When we headed down the Ridge Trail, I instantly regretted not bringing the snowshoes. Although it was hard packed enough, and narrow, ‘shoes would have helped consolidate the snow which was more lightly traveled. I fear I will pay for my sins in the form of some awful chewed up trail someday soon. That said it was a lovely trail and despite the ups and downs, rather fun to climb astride the Flintlock ski trail yet never cross it. Once around the back of the mountain after the Gunstock Mtn Tr junction, the trail was perfect for spikes again.
A bit cloudy and very busy ski lift at the summit but still a great view of the northern Presi’s and Lake W. In other important matters the summit Clivuses were upgraded to full flush toilets replete with linoleum floors, baseboard heat and hand sanitizer.
On descent we were glad to take Benjamin Weeks then North Spur, both with more solid foot path. By the late afternoon MtRowe trail has softened and snowshoes would’ve been an option. Surprisingly not that many people on our trails, and enough natural shelter that the cold and winds were very manageable.
