| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
the Lonesome Lake parking lot to the left is not well plowed, we were glad to have 4WD as the snow was slick and about 6 inches deep. We have studded snow tires and it still took a little effort to extract ourselves. the lot to the right past the visitor center is much better. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
solid snow bridges over both Cascade Brook crossings. There were some spots in the brook where it was open to the water however! |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
on Lonesome Lake trail, as it levels off to head to the lake, there is a large pine down across the trail. It can be ducked under but hikers have created a path around it on the left side. A little further up is a small tree across the trail but easily stepped over. |

| Comments: |
Firm trail bed up to the lake, spikes were perfect. We stayed on the trail rather than crossing the lake, which was broken out but not well packed. I'm sure the lake track is very firm. We put on snowshoes for the Cascade Brook Trail and Basin Cascade trail to the Basin. We wanted to take the Pemi trail back to Lafayette Place but it wasn't broken out and we really didn't try very hard to figure out exactly where it started. We used the bike path to return to the car, lots of snowmobiles and the surface was pretty loose so I felt like I was on a treadmill! Won't do that again. The last mile of this 6 mile hike took more energy than the first 5 miles! very pleasant day in the Notch. |
