Avalon Trail was pretty well packed, some soft snow on top. I used microspikes until the A-Z junction where I switched to snowshoes for the steep ascent. Snow softer after the junction as well. Stuck with snowshoes until the peak and for the descent for better grip. Snow more torn up on the descent from the heavy traffic that day. Some rocky and icy spots showing up from displaced snow. Perfectly sunny day with no wind! Although -10 F at the trailhead, couldn't have asked for better conditions. |
