Comments
Comments: Micro spikes for most of the day. Valley Way is the route of choice. Mostly packed, except for the section between the Tentsites and the Hut. Unconsolidated, mealy and chunky. Exposed rocks and ice up to Madison. Micro spikes did fine. The climb up to Adams is mostly snow packed with some exposed rocks and ice near the headwall. We decided to descend on Airline after speaking with a couple that had snowshoed up. The upper ridge is mostly exposed rock with some ice and a few snow drifts. Once below the treeline, the Airline trail was a mix of light snowshoe pack and deep post holes. We wore snowshoes for the the last three miles down. The lower section had a good base. This trail will need more snowshoe love. I would hesitate to ascend on Airline unless you want to really work those snowshoes. Valley Way would be a better route. 40 minute pace over 9.8 miles, moving time 6hrs 32mins,total time 8he 20 mins.
