Comments: Out of 15 people on the trail today, only Fancypants and I were in snowshoes. I dunno… maybe we’re doing it wrong (hahaha), but I’d say snowshoes are much easier and definitely the way to go…

There was an old set or two of snowshoe tracks with a barebooter (carrying snowshoes) divoting it up. FP and I were having a grand time smoothing out a nice track until four rototillers passed us. Black Mountain Trail is an old road (wider than most trails). F this, I said, and from that point on, broke out a parallel track most of the way up and down the mountain. It was easier walking and kind of nice for barebooters and snowshoers to each have their own trails. :) We met eight more barebooters on our way down. Hopefully they stuck to “their” trail.

The day turned out to be a beaut, and we had fun checking out the extensive ledges and far-reaching views. A moose had been on the summit very, very recently. Black Mountain is pretty awesome.
