Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Maddie had a great time - like us she wore multiple layers and didn't get cold as long as we kept moving. I leashed her near the summit ledges just to be safe but overall no specific hazards for winter-hardy canines

Comments
Comments: Finally time for snowshoes!! - we headed to the southwestern Whites where they got a bit less snow in hopes of manageable trail breaking and we found it. Only 3-4" down low with a crust increasing to 4-6" snow within a few tenths of a mile, isolated drifts of 10-12"+ on the ridge - a few tops of rocks poking through here and there but overall super nice trail breaking conditions - we were able to follow the faint trench from before then storm which had a decent base. Took the loop clockwise - some of the ledges were completely wind blown but enough snow nearby where only a few steps on rock were needed. Did our best to find the "faint spur path" described in the WMG near the sharp right turn and probably came close but hard to tell with no markers or trees. The hike down was uneventful and quick. Had the mountain to ourselves - trail is rough broke but far from consolidated, if hiking this in the next several days snowshoes are strongly recommended, anything less would be a struggle and inconsiderate to fellow hikers. Happy trails!
