Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Bailey Brook Rd and Old Stoddard rd were mostly free of snow/ice and were certainly suitable for all cars. In classic Cooney fashion, I drove right by the parking area while my friend chased after my car. The parking lot wasn’t plowed but had tracks. Since I had to turn around, it was easy for me to get in the parking lot but otherwise it could be quite difficult with a sharp turn. 2WD cars at least will probably have to enter the lot as I did from the other direction. I had a little trouble getting traction to get out of the lot but made it. Who knows what it’ll look like after the storm…

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Kulish Ledges Trail is blazed in yellow. It was adequately blazed as far as I recall and was easy to follow but Jen again we were just following the packed trail. Same goes for Holt Trail except it was blazed in blue, and a bit less travelled. No blowdowns I recall but some small debris on the Holt Trail that my friend was kind enough to toss off. I imagine they’ll be a lot more after today!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Too cold for dogs on Saturday but seems like a good trail network for them. A sign at the trailhead explicitly asks them fo be leashed.

Comments
Comments: Day 76, Peak 65. 1st hike of the day. Glad to have the company of a friend on this bitter cold day! Temps were just a few degrees above zero when we started and not much higher when we finished and the wind was strong. Beautiful blue skies though!

My friend redlined the other half of Bailey Brook Trail while I geared up to keep warm. We ascended Kulish Ledges and descended Holt. I was surprised to find a register at the summit. Managed to sign in despite the cold. Hand warmers came in handy. Only a few inches of snow. Not too crusty. Surprised to find virtually no ice until one spot with some blue ice on Holt Trail which would be easy enough to avoid. After today…who knows! Both trails were travelled but Kulish Ledges more so. A nice little loop hike with some cool forest and relics!

The hike took us 2hrs and the guidebook has it at 4.4mi/820ft of gain. 289 more days and 300 more peaks to go…
