| Comments: |
I know conditions will be very different after the snow that is coming, but still wanted to post. We parked at the Beaver Brook picnic area because we were originally going to do the Garfield/Galehead loop. At Garfield we decided not to get Galehead. From the parking lot, the XC Ski trail was very well packed and easy to follow. The Galehead River Loop Road was very well packed to the Galehead trail head, then it was unbroken to the Garfield trail head. What we hoped would be a road run was a road slog. Garfield trail was very packed, only a couple of icy sections that were no trouble with our Hillsound trail crampons. The trail was so packed that on the descent, we took off our traction so we could run easier with our footwear which have studs. It was a bit cold at the start, but does not take much to warm up, and was such a beautiful day with gorgeous views at the summit! |
