Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: One crossing in the lower flats of Algonquin Trail was not completely frozen over yet but easily maneuvered. Drakes Brook, at the bottom of Sandwich Mountain Trail, was a solid ice bridge (at least for people w/ gear under ~150 lbs.)
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails, especially Algonquin (thanks, trail adopter Steve!), were in great condition and easier to follow than expected, for winter. Did have to check GPS in a couple spots on Algonquin.
Dog-Related Notes

Comments
Comments: What a fun route! Sandwich Notch Road is groomed and hard packed, a nice 2.5 mile stroll to Algonquin Trail. Consider the 600 foot climb/350 foot descent a nice warmup. ;)

We followed old frozen bareboot prints most of the way up Algonquin but found the going easier in snowshoes, especially when utilizing the televators on the steeper terrain. The snowshoes did make a couple of the scrambles… interesting. There were some small drifts and areas of legit trail breaking. Views were plentiful and spectacular from the numerous ledgy vantage points. Moose helped with trail breaking between 3500 & 3800 feet.

After 7 solitary miles, we were almost sad to reach the heavily traveled Sandwich Mountain Trail… but being midafternoon actually encountered only 5 other hikers. We switched to spikes for the final, fast 4 miles.

This route was very enjoyable! I highly recommend!
