Comments
Comments: Really cold at -22 degrees Fahrenheit first thing this morning. Almost bailed all together. Sat in the truck for about an hour questioning my sensibilities. Stepped onto the trail at about 7:00 a.m. with every intention of turning around, but without any wind, once I got moving, with appropriate layers of course, it really wasn't that bad. Once I made it to the Hut I it was sunny and warm (relatively). So glad I convinced myself because it was a whopper of a blue bird day with fantastic views.

None of this will matter in about 24 hours, but I will note that I put snowshoes on at the Hut and wore them up Galehead, over the Twins, and all the way down to Haystack Road. I had a heck of a workout ascending Twinway to South Twin because of drifting. There is a surprising amount of snow between the Twins. A couple of feet anyway. I was planning to retrace my steps back the way I had come, but when I reached the North Twin Trail, it was so well groomed from snowshoes that I called an audible and changed the play, deciding it would be much more enjoyable to descend via the North Twin Trail - and it was. I encountered a group of 4 on the way up, all using snowshoes too! Point being, at least as far as the North Twin Trail is concerned, underneath all the new snow coming tomorrow should be a well packed base.
