Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: I opted for the winter route (or the old route). Surpisingly weak ice. Crossing one more or less is doable but large sections of the ice have broken today. Unstable. Crossing two was no issue, and three was solid ice
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I took out 3 problem trees. There is one pine tree at the beginning of the ascent, about 8". I was uncomfortable taking it out solo and I could not safely determine the tension load on it. The same can be said on SRT for a 4" arched tree, between the start and the split. Aside from that, there is one spruce that fell parallell on the trail immediately after crossing two. I did not have the energy to tackle
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Several puppers out enjoying the day

Lost and Found
Lost and Found: I found a womens black knit cap on SRR.

Comments
Comments: A FINE day to be in the forest. Balmy to start, the warmest spot in the whites at 4 above. Ran into Moutine Runer at the trailhead and dropped their car off at Nancy. It was nice to have some company to the split. We made quick work of the road and down low. It was like a drag strip. Sparks flew, the smell of melting microspikes filled the air... ok that might be slightly embellished. Trail was in great packed shape until the ascent starts by the big tree/the lightning strike tree. From there on the way up it was fine but on the way out it was like hiking in a really weird mix of sand and parmesan cheese. Just slower going than the drag strip prior. Met several familiar faces and other NETC folks on Signal Ridge. Must have been a doggie play date, about 5 puppers, all whom where having the best day ever. Sorry, no treats Kira! The beach sand continued to the summit of Carrigain. Snowshoes would not have helped at all today, the snow is so dry and fluffy it wont consolidate. The -25 dew points dried it all out. Ran into several familiar faces on the summit as well, we keep seeing eachother on different mountains. This trip report has the shelf life of about 6.5 more hours. I would not suggest driving fast, taking chances, passing on the right or utilizing the guardrail to Tokyo drift in, however if you can load up on enough caffiene to be just under tachycardic levels, you got this! Gave some Skrewball to Carrigain before I took my celebratory grid out shot - my 23rd!
