There is full snow cover, but a few bony places (such as the eroded/rocky stretch prior to the first viewpoint). A couple of minor patches of blue ice. The footbed is firmly bootpacked, so Microspikes were adequate. Only a few inches of snow should be enough to cover up the remaining rocks and make snowshoes the ideal choice. Snowshoes would be the ideal choice beyond the summit today, as there's a good foot or so of snowpack up high.
Balmy afternoon after the deep freeze with temperatures in the 20s. Nice blue skies and a decent number of folks out enjoying it. Seems like most of the visible portions of Winnipesaukee are frozen. |
