Went up hi-cannon. Steep with loose snow but snowshoes weren't necessary. Some ice on hi-cannon that would be easier with crampons but an ice axe makes it doable. Parts of the ladder was covered in snow but wasn't slippery. Kinsman's ridge to junction was very icy in spots, going up or down it would be best with crampons but microspikes could do the trick. If continuing to cannon balls or kinsmans summits, it is hardly traveled. Some form of traction or snowshoe would be desirable. Did the lonesome lake to the hut which provided a lot of slim monorails around the area of the foot bridges and post holing was unavoidable in areas. Overall, bare booted the whole loop but crampons would have made it easier, using the ice axe made it possible. |
