Great day in the Whites. Bare-booted up to S. Hancock which was a challenge with the snow-covered ice but I like to do things the hard way. Crampons would have been easier which goes without saying. All 9 hikers I passed today were wearing crampons. After I summitted I put on spikes and left them on the rest of the day. Coming down N. Hancock was slow going. Everyone seems to want to ascend North and descend south which makes no sense to me but it is what it is. 5 hrs round-trip which was my time when I did this route the first time back in May 2020. No evidence of snowshoes anywhere that I could see. |
