Comments
Comments: Freezing rain and sleet, but still not a bad day for Owlie. We started late, arrived to LW around 9:15am, and there were about 5 or 6 cars in the lot. Did not see anybody until we were heading up Brutus Bushwhack, and then crossed paths with about 5 heading back down. Trails were mostly packed, but some areas had unconsolidated snow, and a few very short sections on Brutus and then just before the summit that had some drifts. Not enough to put on snow shoes for the few feet of drifting. The water crossing was bridged with ice and snow, but we still used caution, and no issues. We wore Hillsound Trail Crampons start to finish. Everyone we crossed paths with were wearing spikes or trail crampons. I was very glad to have been in trail crampons, especially for the brutal Brutus. The Black Pond Bushwhack and Brutus Bushwhack were well traveled and easy to follow.
