Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The southern end of Shermans Loop is not plowed. The northern end is. I got confused and tried going up the driveway (shown on Gaia) rather than the northern end of the loop. The driveway was too steep for my FWD car without snow tires so I had to turn around very carefully and head back down. I parked at the jct of the driveway, Shermans Loop, and Hill Rd (shown as Hill Danforth Rd on Gaia) in a plowed space behind some mailboxes. That said, my car probably could’ve gotten up the less steep northern end of Shermans Loop. There looked to be room to park at the plowed turnaround at the top of Shermans Loop should you chose to.

Comments
Comments: Day 67, Peak 63. 4th hike and peak of the day after Piper Hill in Colebrook, and Harris Pond Mtn and Corkscrew Hill, both in Pittsburgh.

Not only did I drive up the wrong way (driveway, see above) but I still hadn’t noticed my mistake so upon parking, I hiked up the driveway. I met a car coming down that asked if I was lost. I explained to him what I was doing and he explained that he’s met several other people doing the 500 highest that mistakenly came up the driveway. He was super kind and understanding so no worries there and he seemed genuinely interested in the list haha. That said, he noted that they were renting the place, didn’t own so he wasn’t sure what his landlord would have to say. Once I walked back down and walked up Shermans Loop though, it was clear that the peak wasn’t near their house.

Upon reach the end of Shermans Loop, his house is on the right. Instead, go into the woods by some thick pencil like young growth with spruce behind them shortly after a driveway to a cabin on the left. The peak is just behind there all of 100ft from the road maybe and fairly close to the cabin previously mentioned. No cairn or jar. I thought I’d read there was (I was wrong…trio reports did not say there was a canister) so I went over to another bump closer to a red house but upon reaching it, it appeared that it was shorter.

298 more days and 302 more peaks to go…
