Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Town Line Rd was a bit rough in a FWD car without snow tires but I managed. No plowed spots though so I carefully turned around and parked back at the jct with Piper Hill Rd. I suppose there were spots were one could shovel a spot out for yourself if you really wanted to. All other roads were well plowed and very doable for 2WD.

Day 67, Peak 60. 1st hike of the day. Another cloudy and windy day with temps falling slightly as the day wore on. I think they were in the mid 20s here.

I walked up Town Hill Rd to the open gate, continued across it, and took the road (right hand turn) just after the barn, crossed some fields, then came to the edge of the woods where the road continued and there was a sign that said “Blue Mountain”. I wonder why the name. If it’s another name for Piper Hill or if there’s a view toward Blue/Bunnell Mtn in the Nash Stream forest at some point or what. I followed this road for a ways but it headed to the east whereas the peak was north of me so I eventually turned off of it, onto what briefly may have been a Skidder road, then bushwhacked to the peak. Grades were moderate and woods were open. The summit area is cool. There’s one large cabin on the south side of it before reaching the jar and another, much smaller one, on the north side. I found the jar without difficulty, signed in and returned the same way. I ran into a road around the summit that looked just like the one I was one earlier. I wonder if the road down low eventually changes direction and leads to the peak. The road down low had bootprints whereas this did not though.

Snow depth was maybe 3-5in max. I think it often feels much deeper and you think “snowshoes would be nice right about now” as your foot sinks a few inches in powder but in reality I don’t think there was enough depth for them. Still too much sticking out. That said, with snow since then, the situation may be different. The hike was about 2.5mi round trip wi the 500ft of so of elevation gain. It took 1hr15min. 298 more days and 305 more peaks to go…
