Barebooted up to Zeta Pass. Never sank in anywhere. Put on snowshoes to get to S. and M. Carter. Trail had been well packed but long sections have drifted in with snow and I put new tracks on it plus a later hiker should have helped smooth it out even further. On the way up to Carter Dome met a young couple from Connecticut who had barebooted up from Carter Notch. The made quite a mess from Carter Dome down to Zeta Pass with very deep postholes. They had left their snowshoes in Montana!!!
There were four more snowshoers coming down behind them who, hopefully, could smooth out the trail a bit. |
