Trail went from mostly ice to packed snow for most of the ascent. There were lots of foot holes so even dull microspikes worked well. On the traverse toward Scaur/Mt.Tri junction the trail got pretty beat up in the warm weather. LOTS of hard footprints/postholes. The climb up to North Tri was fairly easy (condition wise) as there was packed snow or bypasses with good vegetation grips. We expected more ice here so this was great. From North over to Middle there were some good sections but much of it was the frozen footprints/postholes. If these get covered with a small amount of snow they will be dangerous. Need a good amount to make them go away. Switched to sharp Hillsounds for trip down and they worked great. No need for snowshoes at this point. |
