This was an out and back hike; didn't want to deal with the slides; given the many reports of Tripyramids from Pine Bend Book, I wanted to write this report, informing that Scaur Ridge trail was fully broken out - thank you to all those who hiked it over the past week! Made my ascend and descend super easy. No traction needed on Scaur Ridge; solid snow base. Spikes for the ridge up to North Tripyramid and in between the summits. (That said, I did put on crampons for the steep descend section from Mt Tripyramid toward Scaur Ridge junction on my way back. I preferred the solid traction.)
Some old steps came up from Sabbaday Brook. Met a total of 13 hikers along the ridge; all doing the out and back from Pine Bend Brook. As I was heading back out on Livermore Rd, I noticed one set of fresh tracks on North Slide trail. Met two more hikers and dog on Livermore Rd; they had not yet decided whether to ascend via the North Slide of Scaur Ridge.
NOTE: Snowshoes or skis required on Livermore Road (Waterville XC ski area) |
