Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Mostly frozen
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One log sawed about halfway across the trail on Hancock Notch trail that was at eye level. Tom and Chris( who we met along the way) put some weight on it to move it towards the side of the trail out of the way. It needs a large saw or axe to remove it completely. There’s a duck under on cedar brook trail that could use an axe too. When( if) the snow gets deeper, this one will be annoying to duck under.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Only met one today who was cruising.
Bugs
Bugs: :) only a gray jay looking for handouts on north Hancock.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Only a bunch of clementine peels tossed in the woods on Hancock loop trail :( At the parking area kiosk, there’s a couple gloves looking for their mates.

Comments
Comments: Good day with the forecasted winds and precipitation to hit up these two peaks. Solid packed snow and ice the whole way. There are frozen boot prints from last weekends warm days but not to terrible to hike on. We used our Hillsounds all day except descending South Hancock. Plenty of solid ice there and we were happy to have our full crampons for that descent. No way would this be fun with rock spikes or dull traction. Please bring the right tools for the job, it makes a difference. Ridge line was solid packed frozen snow, lovely walk. I don’t recommend butt sliding unless you want a sore behind, rocks and roots are still poking up and ice is solid. It would be a painful descent on your tailbone. The snow is welcome to come to the Whites soon as the trail signs are all too high still.
