Surface Conditions: Ice - Black, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Bridge is closed 1.8 miles in on the Lincoln Woods Trail- there are several rocks laid out for an easy crossing (to the right of the bridge when heading towards the wilderness boundary). The 2 crossings on the lower Bondcliff Trail (after turning left off the Lincoln Woods extension) were fairly easy rock hops.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails overall in very good shape. Notable blowdowns ~3.6 miles in and ~3.9 miles in from Lincoln Woods parking on the Bondcliff Trail, and a few on the lower 1.5 miles of the Bondcliff Trail after turning left off the Lincoln Woods railroad grade.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Mileage would be prohibitive for many, but the trails themselves would be fine.
Bugs
Bugs: They apparently don't like 10-degree weather.

Comments
Comments: I was wary that I would be hiking on sheets of ice today, and was mentally prepared to turn around early, but the trail conditions were surprisingly good! As an added bonus, the promised winds never materialized- consistently <5 mph above treeline. Lincoln Woods was intermittently choppy but fast frozen granular, which transitioned to a firm base of hard-packed powder while ascending toward Bondcliff. Microspikes were perfect, even ascending the Hillary Step below Bondcliff. Not enough coverage for snowshoes, and the flotation wasn't necessary- no postholing at any point. Though it's sad not to have deeper snowpack at this time of year, this was about as good as it gets for the Bonds in winter.
